Kjell Nordeson and Aram Shelton both found their way to the San Francisco Bay Area in the mid-2000s, from Sweden and Chicago respectively. Their first project together was Cylinder (Clean Feed CF219) with Darren Johnston and Lisa Mezzacappa. In 2008 they began playing as a duo, named simply Nordeson Shelton.

Incline was recorded over the course of a weekend in a cabin in the mountains near Lake Tahoe. Nordeson Shelton allowed their musical and personal relationship to shape these improvisations, rather than incorporating predetermined melodies, structures, concepts or dogmas. The resulting music created by these two virtuosic musicians is complex and subtle, adventurous and focused.

Aram Shelton is a multi-instrumentalist on saxophones & clarinet, improviser and composer. Originally from southeast Florida, Shelton spent several productive years in Chicago and currently lives in Oakland, California. While the music he makes is spread across a variety of aesthetic lines, it is grounded in and influenced by the rich history of avant-jazz and free improvisation in America and Europe since the 1950s. In California the groups Marches, Cylinder, and Stratic represent his music. He maintains his connections to Chicago through Fred Lonberg-Holm’s Fast Citizens (Delmark), Jason Adasiewicz’ Rolldown (Cuneiform), and his own Arrive (Clean Feed) with Adasiewicz, Jason Roebke and Tim Daisy.

Kjell Nordeson has been one of the leading percussion players in the Swedish free improvised music scene from the early 90s and on. Together with reeds player Mats Gustafsson he started AALY Trio, which became a major force in promoting Swedish experimental music internationally. Nordeson's long record of activities and collaborations includes tours and projects with Peter Brötzmann, Barry Guy, Ken Vandermark, Gerry Hemingway, and many others. He is represented on over 40 albums and has toured extensively in Europe, North America, Japan, and North Africa. Nordeson relocated from Sweden to San Francisco in 2006.
